October 1st, 1988 - Train 617, Crossing the Miramichi

After leaving the Rogersville platform, we continue to head north along the 126. First passing through (read along) town including the gas station, Home Hardware and a big roman Catholic church. On the outskirts of town, we pass the Trappist monasteries.

A few minutes past the town limits, the mainline pulls away from the road and cuts through the New Brunswick forests. The natural resources industry is a major economic driver in this province. Considering that just along this rail line leaving Moncton we pass a lumber mill, farms, a moose sanctuary and peat moss farms. Leaving Rogersville heading north, we pass by logging operations, more farms and a pulp mill.

At 13:50, we approach the bridge to cross the South branch of the Miramichi river and a few minutes later, the North branch. The Miramichi is world famous for it Atlantic Salmon fishing. Flyfishers come from the world over.

As we cross the North branch bridge, we pass a pulp mill on our right. The train slows down, we are about to arrive at our next station stop, Newcastle, New Brunswick.
